Limited evidenceLongevity

Epitalon

Soviet-era longevity peptide. Claims far exceed independently replicated evidence.

01

What it is

A synthetic tetrapeptide developed from research on pineal gland extracts.

02

What it does

Proposed to influence telomerase activity and circadian/pineal regulation.

Does it work?

Most supporting literature originates from a small number of research groups and is not widely replicated by independent laboratories. Telomerase and lifespan claims should be treated as unproven in humans.

US FDA — 503A compounding 2026-07

Advisory committee (PCAC) voted 7–5 in July 2026 to recommend inclusion on the 503A compounding list — non-binding, and against the written recommendation of FDA staff. Rulemaking pending; this is not an approval, and the earliest legally compounded product is estimated at late 2027.

Common questions

Where does epitalon come from?

From Soviet-era pineal gland research by the Khavinson group in St Petersburg, which developed the wider bioregulator family.

Does it lengthen telomeres?

The claim traces to a small body of work that independent laboratories have not widely replicated. Treat it as unproven in humans.

Why is replication the key issue here?

Because nearly all supporting literature originates from the same few groups. Science that only one lineage can produce is a warning sign, not a body of evidence.

Did the FDA just approve Epitalon?

No. In July 2026 an FDA advisory committee voted 7–5 to recommend adding it to the 503A compounding list — a non-binding recommendation made against FDA staff advice. Approval status is unchanged, and rulemaking could run into late 2027.
