DSIP

Delta sleep-inducing peptide — named for an effect that has not replicated well.

01

What it is

A nonapeptide first isolated from rabbit brain during sleep research in the 1970s.

02

What it does

Named for observed delta-wave sleep effects in early animal work; the mechanism remains poorly defined.

Does it work?

Despite the evocative name, human sleep evidence is inconsistent and the compound has not progressed to established clinical use in five decades — that longevity without adoption is itself informative.

Common questions

Does DSIP actually induce sleep?

The name records an effect observed in early animal work. Five decades later, human findings remain inconsistent and the mechanism undefined.

Why is fifty years without adoption informative?

A genuinely effective sleep compound discovered in the 1970s would have been developed. Longevity without clinical adoption is evidence in itself.

What has better evidence for sleep?

Behavioural treatment of insomnia and clinician-guided options. Sleep is one area where evidence-based alternatives are genuinely available.

Why was DSIP rejected by the FDA compounding committee?

At the July 2026 PCAC meeting it was the only peptide voted down (6–7) for the 503A compounding list. The committee did not find its evidence base sufficient — consistent with the five-decades-without-adoption picture on this page.
